I work the morning shift which is 6am till 2pm, which means I have my afternoons free. If I’m hosting STEM events, I work from home during the day and then go into work early afternoon for the event. If I have to work weekends for a STEM event, I work from home on the following Monday too. So I have a very flexible work and home life balance.

I try to make sure I always have at least one day off a week, then I’ve always got something to look forward to and know I have time to see my family and friends. It took a while, but eventually I learnt to recognise my own limits and to say no when the workload was getting too much.

I find it is best to have some hobbies to distract you when you are at home. I for instance am a scout leader. Leaving work at work also helps, it is a slippery slope when you start taking work home with you.

It takes planning, but I work from home 2 days a week, which means I can take my children to school and nursery, and I try to limit the amount of nights I have to spend working away from home.

I often switch off when possible once i leave work and disconnect my emails from my phone. I also try to go to the gym in the evenings to clear my mind and refresh myself
