      Probably the steam engine – it was a massive leap forward and meant food, machinery and other goods could be transported a lot more easily.

      I think the aeroplane is my favourite invention, even as far back as Leonardo Da Vinci, there were people looking at birds flying in the sky and inspired to try and make a machine that humans could fly in. If I had to pick a favourite plane it would probably be the English Electric Lightning (built in the 1950s) – it was basically a very big engine with a pilot sat on the top – even by today’s standards it’s still really fast (unfortunately it doesn’t fly any more)

      Probably the integrated circuit (the chip in a computer). It has made so much difference in the world. We wouldn’t be where we are today without it. My job definitely wouldn’t exist.

      i think cars – its something we use everyday and is a common interest amongst all.
