I had to work pretty hard. I had to get good grades at A Level to get into university, and then spent 4 years (plus a placement year) to get my masters degree. That all contributed to getting the job I am in now, but it was also all the other stuff that is important. It is really worth knowing the subject you want to go into, I spent a huge amount of time researching space and satellites, partly because I really enjoy reading about it, but also because I needed to. There are also other things like volunteering that really helped make me who I am today, and always helps when it comes to getting a job.
